Bili rekordy dla papieża

O symbolicznej godzinie 21:37 zakończyła się XI Opolska Sztafeta Pływacka Olimpiad Specjalnych. Przez cały dzień setki osób oddały w ten sposób swój hołd papieżowi Janowi Pawłowi II.
Uczestnicy przepłynęli około 21,5 tysiąca długości basenów. Finiszujących zawodników oklaskiwali z trybun prezydent Sabina Nowosielska oraz starosta Paweł Masełko. Sztafeta wystartowała punktualnie o godzinie 7:00.
Tegoroczna edycja poza papieżem Polakiem upamiętniała także Stanisława Wolkiewicza, którego memoriał odbył się po raz pierwszy. W Kędzierzynie-Koźlu znany on jest jako twórca Wodnego Ochotniczego Pogotowia Ratunkowego, wychowawca całych pokoleń zdolnych ratowników, ale też inicjator klubu „Morsy Dębowa”.
