Pływają dla papieża

Choć nie ma go już z nami od 15 lat, pamięć o nim jest wciąż żywa. Już po raz dziewiąty kryta pływalnia w Kędzierzynie-Koźlu gości uczestników Otwartego Memoriału Pływackiego ku czci Jana Pawła II.
Po uroczystym przepłynięciu z flagą Olimpiad Specjalnych oficjalny sygnał do startu dała prezydent Sabina Nowosielska. Sztafeta potrwa do 21:37 (godzina śmierci papieża). W tym roku uczestnicy mierzą się z dystansem 26 km i 516 metrów, co odpowiada pontyfikatowi Jana Pawła II, który wynosi 26 lat, 5 miesięcy i 16 dni.
Memoriał odbywa się z zachowaniem wszelkich zasad bezpieczeństwa. Organizatorem są Olimpiady Specjalne Opolskie, a patronat honorowy nad wydarzeniem objęła m.in. prezydent Kędzierzyna-Koźla.
