Z dużym prawdopodobieństwem średnioroczne stężenie benzenu w Kędzierzynie-Koźlu będzie lepsze niż w 2016 roku. Wojewódzki Inspektorat Ochrony Środowiska w Opolu podał, że średnie stężenie za okres 1 stycznia – 20 listopada 2017 roku wynosi 3,7 mikrograma na metr sześcienny.
Norma wynosi 5 mikrogramów. Ponieważ na jej przekroczenie się nie zanosi, nie będzie śledztwa prokuratury w sprawie październikowego piku benzenu, gdy krótko stężenie było jedenaście razy większe. Zawiadomienie o możliwości popełnienia przestępstwa w postaci usuwania benzenu w sposób zagrażający życiu lub zdrowiu ludzi złożył urząd miasta.
