Decyzję o nadaniu takiej nazwy w czerwcu 2019 roku podjęła rada miasta, a zawnioskowało o to ponad 700 mieszkańców Kędzierzyna-Koźla.
Wydarzenie upamiętnił posadzony w pobliżu dąb, o czym informuje niedawno umieszczona tabliczka.
