Dokładnie 78 lat temu, 1 września III Rzesza zaatakowała Polskę. Tak rozpoczęła się II wojna światowa. Pamięć o jej bohaterach i ofiarach jest wciąż żywa. Dzięki nim dzisiaj możemy się cieszyć z wolności i niepodległości.
Uroczystości upamiętniające tamte wydarzenia odbyły się w Domu Kultury „Chemik” oraz pod pomnikiem w parku Pojednania. Wzięli w nich udział sekretarz miasta Zbigniew Romanowicz, starosta powiatu Małgorzata Tudaj, senator Grzegorz Peczkis, miejscy radni, kombatanci, Kresowianie, poczty sztandarowe szkół, przedstawiciele oświaty i służb mundurowych.
